Top 20 Movies for Learning English

Learn/Practice English with MOVIES

Hi, there. Films are an excellent source for education, formal and informal, and cultural awareness. I suggest that you simply choose films that match your interests or tastes. No point in watching a movie that bores you. Make sure the language of the film is English...stay away from English subtitles or captions. Get into the real dialogue of the film. Watch the film with a notebook and jot unfamiliar words, phrases, and grammatical structures. Don't research them during the movie unless you'll stop the film on your TV reception to try to do the research. You don't want to miss a part of the film while you are looking for something up during a dictionary. But do write it down for research after the film. I suggest you not worry about the language level. Even if the film has advanced language, you'll still enjoy the struggle. Because of the visual nature of films, you will be ready to understand from context what's happening ...for the foremost part. Of course, you'll miss some subtleties or nuances, but don't let that stop you from watching the film. And to extend the fun, make some popcorn and invite an English-speaking friend over to observe the film with you. And have that critical discussion after the movie is over, in English, of course. In summary:

1) Choose a movie that matches your interests and tastes.

2) Make sure the film is in English

3) Write down notes during the film, but don't research until the movie is over.

4) Watch films with a high level of dialogue and await context clues.

5) If possible, watch the film with an English-speaking friend.
